Jacobite Cruises Ltd have held two planning and design workshops on The Jacobite Legend and one public exhibition in Drumnadrochit.

We divided the stakeholder representatives into three groups:

  • Community groups (Glenurquhart and Inverness Community Councils and the Highland Youth Voice)
  • Marketing groups (VisitScotland, Destination Loch Ness, Drumnadrochit Chamber of Commerce)
  • Users/Services (British Waterways, Abriachan Forest Trust, Ness District Fisheries Board, Caley Cruisers, RNLI)

We then asked the groups to work together and prioritise their responses to three design tasks:

  • Site appraisal
  • Design principles
  • Evolving the vision

We then approached four different architects who provided us with their design visuals and following public feedback we are pleased to announce the appointment of Glasgow-based Cameron Webster Architects.

Cameron Webster’s design – the firm favourite – proposed the use of Caithness stone and local timber to build the visitor facility, along with floor to ceiling windows for customers to enjoy the spectacular views.

A public exhibition in Drumnadrochit was held on the 13th April for the public to view Cameron Webster’s detailed designs and have their questions answered.

A planning application has now been lodged with The Highland Council. You may view the application by clicking on this link http://wam.highland.gov.uk/wam and typing in the planning application number ref:  10/01962 and clicking the Search button.
